Morris Early Childhood Center adheres to Milford School District policies in all areas including student code of conduct and attendance.

CLOSING OF SCHOOLS

In case of bad weather or emergency, the school district will announce over the radio and television stations, school closing, early dismissal, and delayed opening.

DELAYED OPENINGS

One (1) hour delay - All students are to come to school. Breakfast will be served.

Two (2) hour delay - No morning kindergarten. No breakfast will be served. All day and afternoon kindergarten students are to come to school.

90 Minutes delay - No morning kindergarten. No breakfast will be served. All day and afternoon kindergarten students are to come to school.

E-Mail notification of school closings, early dismissals, and delayed openings can be arranged through the DOE website at doe.state.de.us /services/parents. This is especially helpful for unscheduled dismissals.

Alert Now is a new automated telephone system. Phone calls will be made to your primary phone number to alert you of closings.

MEDICATIONS

During School: Parents are requested to give medications at home on a schedule other than during school hours. If it is necessary that medication be given during school hours, the following procedures must be followed. Medication must be in the original containers. The nurse cannot administer medication that is not properly labeled. The parent must give the nurse prior written permission to administer the medication including the following information: student’s name, name of medication, dosage, time of administration and parent signature. All medication will be stored in the nurse’s office in a locked cabinet and administered by the nurse. Children are not permitted to carry medication with them during the school day.

Field Trips: If your child needs to take medication during a field trip and you cannot accompany him/her to be responsible for the medication, you must give the teacher prior written permission to assist with the medication. Please contact the teacher to make the necessary arrangements and to complete the required form.

IMMUNIZATION

Delaware State Board of Education Regulations require all school age children to have the following basic immunizations (shots):

  • 4 doses of DT or DPT vaccine or a combination (booster is recommended five years after last DT or DTP was administered)
  • 4 doses of oral polio vaccine or 4 doses of inactive (Salk) vaccine
  • 2 doses of Measles vaccine
  • 3 doses of Hepatitis B beginning 1999-2000 with kindergarten and grade seven. 2 doses of CDC approved vaccine for children ages 11-15 may be used.
  • 1 dose of Rubella vaccine
  • 1 dose of Mumps vaccine
  • 1 dose of varicella is recommended
  • Mantoux Tuberculin test - All new school entries must show proof of a mantoux tuberculin skin test within the past 12 months.

Immunization records must be presented to the school within 14 calendar days after notification and must be presented at the time of registration. Evidence must be presented to the school that the basic series of immunizations has been initiated or has been completed. If records are not provided, the child will be excluded from school and the parents may be subject to truancy violations for that child. Please contact the school nurse if you have any questions concerning this requirement.

VISITORS

All visitors are welcome to our school. Visitors are asked to report to the office first to sign in and to get a visitor’s pass. All visitors to our school are reminded that smoking is not permitted on school grounds, including all parking areas.

School Deliveries: No deliveries, flowers or balloons may be sent to students at the schools for any occasion. If they are sent to the schools the delivery will not be accepted.

PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS

Children entering a Delaware school for the first time must have a physical examination. A physical examination signed by a physician or nurse practitioner must be presented to the school within the first thirty (30) days of attendance.

PRESCHOOL SCREENING

Each Spring, a preschool screening is offered for children ages two through four years who live in the Milford School District residents. Some children may be eligible to participate in the District's pre-kindergarten program. Parents should call (302) 422-1650 in March to sign up for the screening.
